There are often two options for the flotation of copper ore, namely priority flotation and mixed flotation.
(1) Priority flotation
Usually copper is floated first, and then sulfur is floated. The collector can be used as xanthate or mixed with black powder. For dense massive copper-containing pyrite, in order to suppress a large amount of pyrite when floating copper, it must be carried out in a strong alkaline medium of =~, and the free C in the slurry is controlled at about ~/. For disseminated ores with low pyrite content, copper ore flotation can be carried out when =~.
(2) Mixed flotation
Copper-sulfur mixed concentrate is often selected from a neutral medium of about =~, and the free C in the slurry is controlled at about ~/. The copper-sulfur mixed concentrate is then separated. The separation of mixed concentrates includes the lime method:
The lime method increases the medium value to make it strongly alkaline and inhibits pyrite.
The lime addition method is used when pyrite is highly active and is not easily inhibited by lime.
The heating method is used for the copper-sulfur mixed concentrate that is difficult to separate to accelerate the oxidation of the pyrite surface.
The above copper-sulfur separation method can also be used for preferential flotation of copper.
